Teaching English as a Foreign Language
About the unit
This unit demonstrates how to use simple yet meaningful exercises to improve the literacy level of students who are mastering the basics of written English and are ready to tackle slightly more difficult written tasks. These tasks are structured and controlled by the teacher.
Who is it suitable for?
This unit would suit the needs of an inexperienced teacher who has a class of students with some basic literacy but who are not yet able to tackle free writing with confidence. The exercises are ranged in difficulty from absolute beginners to slightly more advanced.
Who is it not suitable for?
If you are teaching advanced students preparing for examinations this unit is not for you. It is designed for the inexperienced teacher with a class of beginners who have some knowledge of English script and are learning to write a few simple sentences in English.
What can a teacher learn from this unit?
The inexperienced teacher can learn from this unit how to draw on students’ own lives to enable them to write meaningfully about “real life” situations.
